Never Buy Grocery Store Bean Dip Again
Every now and then I want some bean dip to nosh on while watching bad movies or some other ridiculous way I waste time at home. The only problem is that the canned Fritos Bean Dip is about $4 for a tiny 9oz can. For $1.50 I can get a can of refried beans and make my own at home, and I think it is better than the Frito Lay Bean Dip.
I refuse to go into a long-winded story on how making this bean dip recipe has changed my life and given me spiritual enlightenment, or how it was handed down from my great-grandmother after she got it while working in a Mexican brothel like some recipe sites do. But take my word, that this is most delicious and easy refried bean dip recipe you will ever try.
As a bonus, this bean dip is free of additives like maltodextrin, corn oil, and ‘natural flavors’ which can include MSG analogs made from yeast. Trust me, these companies get sneaky on their ingredients.
Chunky or Smooth Bean Dip?
One thing I wanted to mention is that the refried beans you use can greatly affect the final product of this recipe. Some brands/styles of refried beans are smoother or chunkier than others and of varying quality. Give some thought to if you want super creamy bean dip, or if you want chunkier dip when you are shopping for your refried beans!
Upgrades To This Bean Dip Recipe
This bean dip recipe is pretty bare-bones. There are a lot of things you can add to it if you want to dress this up and turn it into a party tray. Some options to add to your bean dip include:
- Sour cream
- Shredded cheese
- Jalapeno slices
- Sliced olives
- Green onions
Cliff’s Best Bean Dip
- 1 15 ounce can refried beans
- 5 slices bottled jalapenos nacho slices
- 1 tablespoon brine from bottled jalapeno slices
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Remove 4-5 slices of jalepenos from the jar and chop them into small pieces
Empty the refried beans into a bowl
Add all of the remaining ingredients to the beans and mix well
Cover and chill for at least an hour before serving. Overnight is better.
